Trekking is perhaps the best way to
appreciate the natural charms of the North; the means of travel are varied on
foot, by jeep, by river rafting and by elephant backs. Overnight stops are at
hill tribe villages to really experience the rare tribal life.
 Day 1 Chiang Mai/Hmong Hilltribe Lodge
(L/D):
Depart Chiang Mai by 4-WD Land Rover or similar to visit the hill tribe museum
at Mae Rim and a local market at Mae Malai. Then continue to Ban Muang Kued of
Mea Tang. Take a one-hour elephant ride through the rainforest, which for most
people is an exciting and unforgettable experience and ride on an typical
northern ox-cart through rural landscape. After a picnic lunch embark on
inflatable rafts for an adventurous journey down the rapids in the white and
scenic Mae Tang River for about an hour (dependable on season). Continue by the
4-wheel-drive to Baan Huey Rai, passing several villages, orchards, valleys and
rice fields. A brief stop is made at Wat Tha Kham, the most significant temple
in this area. Continue via Saluang village uphill to Baan Pang Hai, a simple
village, situated 830 meters above sea level. Check-in at the HMONG HILLTRIBE
LODGE. B.B.Q. dinner at the lodge followed by a presentation of Hmong dances
and songs and overnight
Day 2 Hmong Hilltribe Lodge (B/L/D):
After breakfast drive to a small village of Baan Teen Doi where you take a
short stroll to Mae Pa. Get into action by mountain biking to Baan Palan. Visit
a small village reservoir and continue biking to Baan Pong Kwaw, where there is
an old temple with beautiful wall paintings. Picnic lunch. Drive by 4WD on
mountain roads through Baan Pok, Baan Pang Kwai and Baan Nong Hoi Mai. Then get
into action again by trekking or mountain biking from Nong Hoi Mai to Mae Khi
village, where you can have coffee or tea in the Hmong's kitchen. Return to
HMONG HILLTRIBE LODGE for dinner and overnight.
Day 3 Hmong Hilltribe
Lodge/Chiang Mai (B/L) :
After breakfast depart the lodge by 4 wheel drive. Visit Tard Mok waterfall and
an orchid farm on the way. Lunch will be taken at a local restaurant. Visit
Baan Kwai Thai before transfer to your hotel in Chiang Mai or to Chiang Mai
Airport.
